90s Clothes

Here’s the 411 on 90s clothes.

90s fashion trends

90s clothes were all about being relaxed and laid back. After a decade of 80s OTT, the 90s told us to chillax.

Double Denim

90s jeans started baggy, high, and belted like the classic mom jeans. By the end of the decade, skater style had swayed us into loving jeans that were extra wide and extra long

But denim wasn’t just for jeans; 90s clothes were denim in every form. From mini skirts to maxi skirts and, of course, overalls and pinafore dresses. Wear them with one strap down, like you’re too cool to care.

In a true blue wash, with a little embroidery or patchwork for the 90s touch. And if you’re doing double denim? Matching was optional.

Alternative 90s styles

Grunge music from bands like Nirvana inspired a too-cool-to-care style for 90s clothes: distressed denim, ripped jumpers, and oversized flannel shirts. On the flip side, hip hop artists like Run DMC popularised brands like Adidas, making tracksuits and athleisure the center of 90s streetwear.“Could I be wearing any more clothes?”

90s clothes were all about the layers. We layered long-sleeved tops under short sleeves. Baggy shirts tucked into belted jeans, with open shirts, oversized sweater vests, and cardigans. The more clashing the prints were, the better.

Model behaviour

90s clothes also had a minimalist side. The era of the supermodel brought about slinky styles with long, simple dresses in silky and sheer fabrics. With thin straps paired with even strappier platform shoes (and not much else.) You wanted to look like you’d just woken up like this.
